Richard Gwyn was born in Pontypool, and grew up in Crickhowell, South
Wales. He studied anthropology at the London School of Economics and became interested in the threatened cultures, languages and music of peripheral communities.
Being in Water is his fifth book of poetry. He has read his work at a variety of venues in Britain and the U.S.A, and has been involved in collaborations with visual artists in Wales, France and Spain.
