New Biography of Irish Language Poet Sean O Riordain

One of Parthian's values is promoting quality works in translation. The translation process inherently involves the best type of collaboration between author, translator and publisher. An excellent recent example of this process is the new biography of

Sean O Riordain, an Irish-language poet who reached prominence in the 20th century.

The Irish language is rich in history with deep Celtic roots. While not currently spoken to the same degree as Welsh, the recovery of language comes about through the accumulation of individual work, this book being a prime example. Translator Micheal O hAodha is the key part of amplifying

Sean O Riordain's voice to an English speaking audience, one that has likely been unaware of this important writer's contributions to 20th century literature.

The book,

Sean O Riordain: Life and Work, chronicles the tragedy  Sean O Riordain endured and the sanctuary which was writing for him. Written by Sean O Coileain, we anticipate this book to be a profound addition to the burgeoning literature in translation from the Irish.

We are also excited to announce that Parthian will be working with translator Micheal O hAodha on a novel entitled Exiles by another prominent Irish-language writer, Dónall Mac Amhlaigh, who wrote about the Irish diaspora in London in the early 20th century. This novel, coming in 2019 as part of the Creative Europe publication series 'Translations 11', will be another great addition to a field Micheal O hAodha has helped see to fruition.
