Max Boyce is a hero of mine and many others. We had his records in our house when I was growing up and my mother and father went to his concerts. To have the opportunity to work with him and produce this retrospective representing over fifty years of creativity is a real honour for Parthian. He captures the spirit and the story of the people of Wales with a warmth and charm that has made his words and music resonate with a worldwide audience. There is only one Max.
When 'Hymns and Arias' rang out at Cardiff Arms Park some fifty years ago, those great Welsh anthems 'Calon Lân' and 'Cwm Rhondda' had found a companion and the valleys of south Wales had produced a new folk hero.
“uproariously and happily unique.” - The Listener
"The book is gloriously put together, shot through with photographs, fine illustrations and perfectly apposite cartoons by Gren, who seems to share Max’s humour to a fault. And there’s one story, about Berwyn at the car boot sale, selling Owain Glyndŵr’s skull to a gullible punter, which will have me chuckling the other side of Christmas..." - Jon Gower, Nation.Cymru
