‘By turns visionary and erudite... all evoked in delicate, precise lines... It was a great pleasure to read [Anna’s] first collection, which more than fulfils her original promise.’ – Samantha Wynne-Rhydderch

‘Anna Lewis's poems have a quiet, disconcerting precision: suggestive but at the same time compressed, they are crafted to last in the mind long after they've been read.’       – Patrick McGuinness

Disappearances, displacements, separations: Anna Lewis’s startling first collection is populated with characters who move through the liminal space between departure and arrival. Soldiers kill time on street corners, an ageing emperor searches for immortality; ignored wives of medieval legend rub shoulders with modern-day migrant workers. These accomplished poems introduce us to worlds on the margins of our received history, to people far from their origins and further still from their destinations.
